GAMES PLAYED BY 64 TEAMS

In a double-elimination 64-team bracket, a total of 126 games are played.

To break it down:

The winners’ bracket has six rounds until the Champion is determined. Each round eliminates half of the teams. Starting with 64 teams:

Round 1: 64 teams / 2 = 32 games
Round 2: 32 teams / 2 = 16 games
Round 3: 16 teams / 2 = 8 games
Round 4: 8 teams / 2 = 4 games
Round 5: 4 teams / 2 = 2 games
Round 6: 2 teams / 2 = 1 game

In the losers’ bracket, the number of teams eliminated in each round mirrors the winners’ bracket’s format until one team is left in the losers’ bracket to face the winner’s bracket winner in the final. Thus, we have the same number of games as in the winners’ bracket each round:

Round 1: 32 games
Round 2: 16 games
Round 3: 8 games
Round 4: 4 games
Round 5: 2 games
Round 6: 1 game

Adding up the games from the winners’ bracket and losers’ bracket:

(32 + 16 + 8 + 4 + 2 + 1) + (32 + 16 + 8 + 4 + 2 + 1) = 126 games

Therefore, in a double-elimination 64-team bracket, 126 games are played.

TEAM GAMES PLAYED

The number of games each team plays can vary depending on their performance.

Each team in the winners’ bracket will play at least one game in the opening round. From there, the number of games a team plays depends on their progress. If a team keeps winning, they will continue playing one game per round until they reach the final.

In the losers’ bracket, each team that loses a match in the winners’ bracket gets a second chance. They will play one game in each round of the losers’ bracket until they reach the final or are eliminated with a double loss.

Teams that make it to the final will play an additional game to determine the Champion.

While it is difficult to determine the number of games each team will play without the specific match results, most teams in a 64-team double-elimination tournament can expect to play around 4-6 games. However, some teams may play fewer games if eliminated early, while others may play more games if they continue to win.
