Double-Elimination Eight Team Division

Teams are eliminated from further 3×3 competition with a second loss in the Losers’ Bracket. Here’s a look at each round:

Round 1: 0 teams eliminated

Teams do not face elimination in the initial round of the double-elimination format. Instead, every team that is defeated in their first game gets a chance to compete in a second game within the loser’s bracket.

Round 2: Two teams eliminated

In the second round, the four teams that lost in round 1 will compete against each other in the Loser’s Bracket. The winners will continue, and the losers eliminated. Therefore, two teams will be eliminated in round 2.

Round 3: Winner’s Bracket and Loser’s Bracket.

In this round, the 4 teams that won in round 1 will compete against each other in the Winner’s Bracket. The two winners will move to the Winner’s Bracket finals, while the two losers will be sent to the Loser’s Bracket.

At the same time, in the Loser’s Bracket, the 4 teams that lost in round 2 will compete against each other. The two winners will move on, and the two losers will be eliminated.

So, in round 3, two teams will be eliminated in the Loser’s Bracket.

Round 4: Winner’s Bracket finals and Loser’s Bracket games. In this round, the team that won the Winner’s Bracket finals will move on to the Championship round, while the team that lost will move to the Loser’s Bracket finals.

In the Loser’s Bracket, the team that won in round 3 will compete against the team that lost in the Winner’s Bracket finals. The winner will move on to the Loser’s Bracket finals, while the loser will be eliminated.

Therefore, in round 4, 1 team will be eliminated in the Loser’s Bracket.

Round 5: Championship round and Loser’s Bracket finals

In this round, the team that won the Winner’s Bracket will compete against the team that won the Loser’s Bracket finals. The winner will be crowned the champion, while the loser will be the runner-up.

In a double-elimination 8-team bracket, the number of teams eliminated each round until crowning a champion is as follows:

– Round 1 (Winners’ Bracket): 0 teams eliminated

– Round 2 (Winners’ Bracket): 0 teams eliminated

– Round 2 (Losers’ Bracket): 2 teams eliminated

– Round 3 (Winners’ Bracket): 0 teams eliminated

Meanwhile, in the losers’ bracket, the second-round matchups would be:

Game 8: Loser of Game 1 vs. Loser of Game 2

Game 9: Loser of Game 3 vs Loser of Game 4

In the losers’ bracket second round, the winners of Games 8 and 9 would move on to face each other:

Game 10: Winner of Game 8 vs Winner of Game 9

The losers of Games 5 and 6 in the winners’ bracket would drop to the losers’ bracket:

Game 11: Loser of Game 7 vs Winner of Game 10

The winners of Games 7 and 11 would face off in the winners’ bracket finals:

Game 12: Winner of Game 7 vs Winner of Game 11

The winner of Game 12 would secure a spot in the championship game. However, the team that loses Game 12 would move to the losers’ bracket finals:

Game 13: Winner of Game 12 vs Loser of Game 12 (if necessary)

The winners of Games 13 and 12 in the losers’ bracket would then play each other in the losers’ bracket finals:

Game 14: Winner of Game 13 vs Winner of Game 12 (if necessary)

The winner of Game 14 would move to the championship game to face the team from the winners’ bracket.

Finally, the teams in the championship game would play against each other:

Game 15: Winner of Game 12 vs Winner of Game 14 (Championship Game)

In total, each team in an eight-team double-elimination tournament would play a minimum of two games and a maximum of four games.
